The Battles of Roliça and Vimiero – 1808

Piper George Clark (71st Foot – Later Highland Light Infantry) at Vimiero

This talk covers the campaign in Portugal in 1808, when a British Expeditionary Force, commanded by Sir Arthur Wellesley (later to become the Duke of Wellington), landed in Portugal to help drive out the French invaders.

It covers the background to the campaign, the Battles of Roliça and Vimiero and concludes with the aftermath to the campaign.

The talk is 45 minutes long.  All Rod’s talks are given to raise funds for charities, in this case for Combat Stress, which provides support and treatment to military veterans with mental health problems to help them tackle the past and take on the future.
